Understanding Unity, Service, and Advocacy
If you have seen the CEUIMEUI official seal, you have seen our motto: Unity · Service · Advocacy. These three words appear on the banner across our seal, below the name CEUIMEUI and above the word CONNECTICUT. But what do they actually mean for the staff members we serve?
Unity
Unity is the foundation of everything we do. The figures on our seal — joined together in a circle — represent the CEUIMEUI staff community. Whether you work in Plantsville or serve members across Connecticut, you are part of something larger than yourself.
Unity means sharing information openly, supporting colleagues in difficulty, and recognizing that our collective strength is greater than any individual effort. In a staff association, unity is not optional — it is essential.
Service
The open book and quill on our seal represent knowledge and service. CEUIMEUI exists to serve our staff members every day. Service means responding to inquiries promptly, addressing concerns with integrity, and ensuring that every member feels supported in their professional role.
Service is our trademark — the standard we hold ourselves to as an organization committed to the well-being of every CEUIMEUI staff employee.
Advocacy
The gear on our seal represents labor and industry — the dignity of work and the ongoing effort required to protect it. Advocacy is the active, daily work of standing up for staff employees: their working conditions, their professional respect, and their right to be heard.
As a 501(c)(5) labor organization, advocacy is not just our value — it is our legal purpose. We were recognized by the IRS in 2010 specifically as an organization created to improve conditions of work for our members.
Living the Motto
Unity, Service, and Advocacy are not abstract ideals. They are practical commitments that shape how CEUIMEUI operates every day — from our annual IRS filings to our responses to staff inquiries, from our governance practices to the way we represent our community publicly.
